HIGH RIDGE, Mo. (KMOX) - A 25-year-old man was shot in the chest and his friend is facing possible criminal charges following a shooting at a home on Thoreau Trail in High Ridge late Monday night.
It happened while the shooting victim and three of his friends were drinking and watching a violent action movie directed by Oliver Stone.
“The individuals had been drinking and watching the movie ‘Savages’,” according to Captain Ron Arnhart with the Jefferson County sheriff’s department. “The victim and his friends began discussing ways to disarm someone who had a weapon, based on a scene from the movie.”
That’s when the 9 mm handgun went off, striking the man in the chest.
He’s hospitalized and police are not yet releasing his name.
A 27-year-old man was taken into custody and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
Evidence is being forwarded to the prosecutor’s office that could result in criminal charges, including unlawful use of a weapon.
“The prosecutor will also be looking at the fact that the individual was drinking,” Arnhart added.
He says the chances of a tragic outcome grew exponentially once alcohol, firearms and roughhousing were all blended into a dangerous mixture.
“When people are drinking they need to leave the handguns and driving and stuff like that alone,” Arnhart concluded.
