ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Some tense moments tonight as a man, a woman and three children were held inside their home by two armed burglars.

The ordeal started with two men kicking in the door at the home in the 4500 block of San Francisco and locking the woman and her children in the basement.

When the woman’s fiancee arrived the burglars took a shot at him and missed.  They then forced him into the basement.

The five escaped the home through a basement window and threw a brick at a neighbor’s home to get them to call police.

A SWAT team surrounded the residence, but when they moved in, the gunmen were long gone.
