Couple Jailed For Driving Teen Across State Lines For Sex
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CBS St. Louis) – A newly married couple is in jail after reportedly driving a teenager across state lines for the sake of having sex with her.
According to The Tennessean, 46-year-old Michael McCarrell and his new bride, 27-year-old Amanda McCarrell, were brought into police custody after learning of their intentions.
Authorities allegedly stopped the couple in Nashville after observing Michael McCarrell failing to use his turning signal.
When police approached the vehicle, they found the unidentified girl, who is 17 years of age, wedged between the couple in the front seat. The teen had reportedly been picked up in Glasgow, Ky. and driven back to Tennessee.
Michael McCarrell told authorities he was under the impression that the girl was 18 years of age. His wife confessed to police that she planned to have sex with her.
In addition to the confession, text messages and photographs of a sexual nature from the girl were found on Michael McCarrell’s cell phone, the paper learned.
According to the official website for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Michael McCarrell faces a felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as misdemeanor charges of driving with a canceled, revoked, suspended or altered license, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and driving with a suspended license.
Amanda McCarrell also faces a felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor and a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
They are both awaiting trial, and are both reportedly being held on bails amounting to over $150,000 total.
