KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – It began like any other Saturday for the Kansas City Chiefs during the NFL season, their general manager and coach at work early to put final touches on this weekend’s gameplan. Then they got a call to hurry to the parking lot. That’s where Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel were horrified to see linebacker Jovan Belcher holding a handgun to his head. Belcher pulled the
trigger.

Authorities say he drove to Arrowhead Stadium and past a security checkpoint at the gate after killing his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp says linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot Perkins on Saturday.

Authorities did not release a possible motive for the murder-suicide, though police said that Belcher and his girlfriend had been arguing recently. The two of them have a 3-month-old child.

Snapp says Belcher’s mother recently had moved in with the couple, possibly to help with the baby. She called police just before 8 a.m. to report Perkins had been shot multiple times. Perkins was transported to a hospital, where she died a short time later.

The NFL and the Chiefs say today’s game against Carolina will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, as planned.
