SAUGET, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in Sauget, Illinois say they’ve located skeletal remains with five Russian rubles in the pocket of the person’s sweatpants.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports Wednesday that a hunter contacted police Monday when he found a skull in Sauget, just across the Mississippi River from St Louis. Sauget Police Detective Sgt. Vito Parisi says there is a hole in the back of the skull. He says he suspects foul play in the death. A lower jaw bone was found nearby.
Police returned to the site Tuesday and found the rest of the remains, including blue sweatpants on the lower body with the coins in the pocket. Parisi says the body was near a waste water treatment facility. He says he thinks it had been there at least two years.
