CHICAGO (AP) U.S. Attorney’s offices in Illinois have announced they’ve
collected millions of dollars in the fiscal year 2012 through criminal and civil
actions.
The office for the Northern District of Illinois includes Chicago and is one of the nation’s busiest. It collected more than $31 million. That’s just under its annual budget of nearly $35 million.
The Southern District of Illinois with offices in East St. Louis and Benton brought in nearly $9 million. And the Central District of Illinois based in Springfield collected
over $4.5 million.
Nationwide, federal prosecutors’ offices collected a total of $13 billion. That doubles the $6.5 billion collected in fiscal year 2011. The $13 billion is also six times the appropriated budgets of the 94 offices combined.
