ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Vicious attacks on pizza delivery drivers have occurred in St. Louis — twice within the same week— both in the same neighborhood in the 7100 block of Virginia.
Captain Mike Caruso says city police are acting with urgency to arrest those responsible, “Those cases, we believe, are related. We’re looking into them as we speak. We do have some evidence, some leads, and the investigation is progressing nicely.”
Capt. Caruso says a 30-year-old driver was the latest victim, Thursday night, “A female was struck in the face and head, with a brick. It could’ve killed her. Fortunately that didn’t happen. We don’t want to give them another opportunity to do one of these things where it could happen.”
The victim is reportedly in stable condition.
A 51-year-old male driver was hit in the face, Saturday night, and his car was stolen.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
Caruso says city police are talking with pizza parlor owners about driver safety, but are not planning on doing undercover pizza deliveries like St. Louis County police have done, because they believe a different strategy is needed to catch these criminals.
Meanwhile, St. Louis County police chief Tim Fitch took to Twitter Friday morning, saying:
