ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Guess who’s near the top of the list for highest paid private college presidents in the United States?
It’s Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton.
According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, in 2010, Wrighton received a total compensation package of nearly $2.3 million — number four on the national list. (See national list)
“This year we have 36 private college presidents who are making more than a million dollars,” The Chronicle’s Jack Stripling said. “And there has been a steady growth in that arena in the years we’ve been monitoring this.”
Stripling says Wrighton received a large deferred-compensation pay out in 2010, about half of it coming from money that had been set aside over the previous decade. Wrighton’s base pay is listed as $761,000.
Other local college presidents on the list:
Webster’s Elizabeth Stroble at $471,000 total compensation
Maryville’s Mark Lombardi at $467,000 and
Lindenwood’s James Evans at $368,000.
