ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are trying to determine what happened after a man was found dead on a city street.

Police were called Monday night and told a man was in the street after being struck by a vehicle. But officers determined the man had apparently been stabbed and had perhaps been dumped at the scene by a van seen in the area earlier that night.

Police have identified the victim as 53-year-old Benny Hill of St. Louis.

Witnesses told police they saw Hill pulled from a white van that fled the scene. Police found the van Tuesday morning and say it had been stolen from the victim.
