BELLEVILLE (KMOX) - An alert resident stops a burglary in Belleville and police say the suspect is no stranger to armed robberies.
The suspect reportedly forced employees and customers of a Jack in the Box restaurant into the back of the store Saturday night. Police Capt. Donald Sax said a man about to go into the restaurant called police to say it looked like a robbery “and gave enough information and stayed on the scene” to update police.
“They did a stealthy tactical entry into the building, were able to work their way back behind the counter and once they were behind there, were able to see the suspect armed with a handgun, pointing it at all the employees,” Sax said.
Yulonda Stewart, 27, was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery. Sax said she is also charged with robbing the Belleville O’Reilly Auto Parts store on November 30 and is believed to have held up the Hardee’s in O’Fallon, Illinois last month.
Sax said Stewart already served time for a couple of robberies six years ago.
