ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - First Washington, then Colorado. Could Missouri be the next state to legalize marijuana?
Maybe not next but Dan Viets, Missouri coordinator for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), says the Show-Me State’s definitely closer than ever to hopping on the legal pot bandwagon.
“I think the public has learned that marijuana is not a threat, that people who use marijuana are no different than people who don’t use it,” Viets said.
And on that point, he says to not expect a big increase in the number of pot smokers if and when it is legalized.
“There’s very few people out there who say ‘Gosh, if it was just legal, I would sure like to start smoking marijuana,” Viets said.
The Missouri Chapter of NORML is considering plans to place an initiative on the ballot to legalize marijuana as early as 2014, and no later than 2016.
