JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Congress has given final approval to new oversight requirements for wartime contracting that had been sought by Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill.

McCaskill said Friday the wartime contracting requirements were included in the National Defense Authorization Act approved by the House and Senate and now headed to President Barack Obama.

The legislation gives inspectors general increased responsibilities for overseas military operations. It also requires agencies to specify who is in charge of contracts and makes funding for wartime reconstruction projects dependent on whether the host country can maintain the projects.

Some additional items sought by McCaskill were removed from the final version. Those include provisions that would have limited how much of a contract can be passed through to subcontractors.
