ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) - A husband and wife are recovering after being assaulted inside their Mehlville home early Monday morning.
St. Louis County police spokesman Randy Vaughn says it happened just before 7:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Forder Ridge Road in south county.
Two men, one armed with a shotgun, kicked in the front door and assaulted the pair before tying them up.
They reportedly suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment
Vaughn says it doesn’t appear that this was a random crime — the victims were likely targeted.
“I believe what is taking place here is that this family, this husband and wife, have been isolated based on their business connections,” he tells KMOX News. “(The suspects) demanded alarm codes for businesses in the city owned by the victims.”
In fact, the suspects may have followed the couple back to their Mehlville residence from one of their places of business.
St. Louis city police were contacted to assist with the investigation and keep an eye on the businesses owned by the victims.
