ST. CHARLES (KMOX) – Gun dealers, about 100 of them, will pack into the St. Charles Convention Center over the next three days for the R.K. Gun and Knife Show and two extra police officers have been hired out of “deference” to the school shooting in Connecticut.
Convention Center sales manager Bill Knicely says there are not any indications that people are concerned about safety or, on the other hand, that attendance at the event could spike this year. However, he does offer up a reminder for those planning on going.
“There is no concealed carry allowed in the facility and that is a St. Charles regulation,” he said.
The show runs through Sunday and Knicely says attendance is expected “to be what it was” for other shows.
“We’ve been doing these events here since 2006, when the Convention Center opened,” he explained. “We’ve done them without incidents. But, in light of what’s happened and in respect to what has happened, we’ve added some additional security at our own cost.”
Knicely says there have been a lot of phone calls from people making sure the event has not been cancelled and confirming the hours and events.
