Victor Callahan named to the State Tax Commission.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has named departing Senate Democratic leader Victor Callahan to the State Tax Commission.
Callahan, of Independence, has served in the Senate since 2003 and has been minority leader since 2008. Term limits prevented him from seeking re-election, and his legislative term ends next week.
The State Tax Commission oversees assessment and equalization and holds hearings on individual cases from local equalization boards.
Callahan’s appointment was announced Monday. The selection requires confirmation by the state Senate when lawmakers return to the Capitol for the 2013 session.
