ST. LOUIS (AP) — Prosecutors in St. Louis have re-filed murder charges against a woman whose 3-month-old son died seven years ago.
Ashley Austin was the mother of Vaughn Robinson, her only child who was found dead on the morning of Dec. 30, 2005. An autopsy revealed several fractured ribs, lacerations to his liver, brain hemorrhaging and several abrasions.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Austin was charged with first-degree murder nine months after the baby died, but she was declared incompetent to stand trial. She is now charged again with first-degree murder.
Austin has been in a mental institution and was recently declared able to stand trial. A relative told the newspaper that Austin is schizophrenic and is on medication.
