Sam Dotson, St. Louis Police Chief
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The new police chief for St. Louis says he wants to start the year with a partnership between St. Louis City and St. Louis County police. Chief Sam Dotson says he’s looking to build a relationship with County Police Chief Tim Fitch.
“We’re going to actually look at working our resources together,” he said. “It makes sense. Criminals don’t recognize city-county boundaries, city-county borders, even state borders so we’ll work with as many partners as we can find.”
Dotson says a partnership with St. Louis County will curb violence in all areas.
“I think the sharing of resources, starting with intelligence and then boots on the ground, is actually a very good approach,” he said.
Dotson argues that information and personnel sharing will enable faster response to crimes. He also wants to do more “hot spot” policing whenever possible. Hot spot policing shifts resources to certain areas and times where and when crime is most prevalent.
