House Explodes in Madison County Leaving Behind Huge Debris Field

WORDEN, Ill. (KMOX) — The State Fire Marshall’s office has taken over the investigation into a Thursday morning house explosion near Worden, Illinois.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department tell KMOX there was no one in the house in the 7900 block of Possum Hill Road when it blew up at about 1 a.m. and no one was injured. However, the blast could be felt for miles around and left a huge debris field.

It’s believed the house was vacant and under renovation.

A neighbor tells KMOX’s Brian Kelly that it may have been vacant since the previous owners, who died a couple of years ago.
