CHICAGO (AP) The Illinois secretary of state office says investigators issued 166 citations worth more than $70,000 during the holiday season in a crackdown on illegal use of disability parking spaces.
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s office started the increased enforcement on the day after Thanksgiving and continued throughout the holiday shopping season. His office says 65 people received tickets for improper use of a disability parking space. Another 101 were cited with misuse of a disability parking placard or using a fraudulent placard.
The program was enforced at more than 65 communities statewide. Fines range from $250 to $500.
