Two Subways On Olive Hit In Smash-And-Grab Robberies

UNIVERSITY CITY (KMOX) – Two Subway restaurants located a few miles apart were both hit by smash-and-grab robbers early Tuesday.

The first happened shortly after midnight at the Subway on Olive in University City. Police there say someone smashed through a front window and took a cash register containing an undetermined amount of money. The glass door was replaced and glass shards swept off the sidewalk just before 7 o’clock this morning.

Meanwhile, as police were responding to that scene, a call came in from nearby Olivette that the same thing had happened at another Subway store, also on Olive.

No word on any suspects or if the two crimes were indeed related.

An employee at the University City location, who asked not to be named, says the break-in occurred around 12:30 a.m.

“There was glass all over and we have a backup change box that went missing,” he said.

That cash box had at least $300 in it. The repair to the windowed door cost $400. Police are looking at surveillance video in hopes of finding the person responsible.
