ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The newly-elected Chairman of the Missouri Republican Party says he will be outspoken on the issues. Ed Martin says part of his job will be to talk about the differences he sees between Republicans and Democrats.
“I keep telling people, I’ve never seen a more bankrupt politician than Jay Nixon. He spends three or so years avoiding telling us whether or not he supported Obamacare and then, within weeks after his election, came out for the Obamacare expansion,” he said.
Martin, who in recent elections lost two races – one for the U.S. House and the other for Missouri Attorney General – won his party’s chairmanship with just a two-vote margin over the weekend. He says he’ll use his new post to engage voters.
“Look, the Democrats are very worried because they’re bankrupt. Their vision as a party is a bankrupt party that relies on Republican policies and talking points to try to deceive the voters,” he said.
“No one votes for the chairman on the ballot so if people say bad things about me, it’s like when I was chief of staff to the governor,” Martin said, referring to his time in Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt’s administration. “Your job is if you have to take the heat, you take the heat. Because people vote for the candidates.”
