ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen passes a plan to let city voters decide whether to raise the sales tax to go toward the Gateway Arch and other parks improvements.  Alderman Scott Ogilvie warned against more taxes.

“The City of St. Louis is already paying higher taxes than St. Charles. Paying an earnings tax, higher residential property taxes, higher commercial property taxes, higher sales tax and in some cases we’re already paying three percent more than people in St. Charles” said Ogilvie.

Under the plan, voters in the city and county would have to approve the 3/16th sales tax hike for it to take effect.

Earlier this week, the St. Charles County Council voted against putting the plan on the ballot.
