UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KMOX) - Two more surveillance cameras will be going up in the University City Loop after city council members approved the $35,000 expenditure last night.

City Manager Lehman Walker said the cameras are not only essential for the Loop, “We are putting cameras in other areas of University City as well.”

While Walker did not give an exact number of cameras in the Loop out of security concerns, he said they have proven to be invaluable.

“It’s essential that we maintain the safe environment that we have in University City. We have a lot of people who come the The Loop, enjoy The Loop, and we want to make sure that they continue to be safe,” he said. “We believe that the number of cameras that we have in The Loop will ensure that The Loop continues to remain a safe environment.”

Additional police will also be allocated to The Loop. Walker says he will be bringing up the additional cameras in budget talks next month. A decision on that budget is expected no later than early June.
