JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (MDN) – St. Louis Senator Eric Schmitt wants to offer tax breaks for sporting event hosts, and St. Louis sports commission members agree.
Tax credit bills for amateur sporting events failed the last two years, but Schmitt says this one is different.
“It gets at what we’re really trying to get at. Bringing these events to our state, to generate revenue, not just for the state, but also those businesses that support these kind of events.”
St. Louis Senator Jamilah Nasheed says this is one of the major priorities for St. Louis during the legislative session.
St. Louis Sports Commission chair Dave Peacock says it’s no accident that Texas is picking up three of four Final Fours, and Missouri needs to keep up.
