County Police Chief Calls National Gun Efforts ‘Fluff’

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – Among those opposed to President Barack Obama’s proposed assault weapon ban is the St. Louis County Police Chief.

Chief Tim Fitch tells KMOX’s Charlie Brennan he doesn’t think it will do any good.

“If criminals want to get their hands on these kinds of weapons, they’re going to do it whether there’s a law of not. That’s what criminals do,” he said.

Fitch went on to call many of the president’s proposed gun control measures “fluff” but does support universal background checks.

“I think it’s a good idea to make sure that we’re handing a gun over to someone or selling a gun, that they are properly qualified and should be buying this gun,” he added.
