ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A project nearly ten years in the making became a reality Saturday morning in the O’Fallon Park area of north St. Louis.

Eighteenth Ward Alderman Terry Kennedy helped cut the ribbon on the brand new O’Fallon Park Recreational Complex on West Florissant, “We’ve had unity out of the mayor’s office, our president of the board of aldermen, and the citizens of this community who kept our feet to the fire, saying ‘where’s that building?'”

The $23 million state-of-the-art athletic and meeting facility will be owned by the city and run by the YMCA.

Twenty-first ward alderman Antonio French says the rec. center will be affordable, “Every child in the city of St. Louis can use this facility for just $25 a year, as opposed to the $40 per month normal membership.”

The center officially opens on Monday.
