Coroner: Man Killed in Fall Had Cocaine in System

ALTON, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a ConAgra worker had cocaine in his system when he accidentally fell to his death last summer at an Alton flour mill.

Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn says 47-year-old Jay Van Buskirk of Edwardsville died of head injuries suffered in the fall from a man-lift platform last Aug. 4 at the ConAgra Foods plant.

ConAgra spokeswoman Becky Niiya has said Van Buskirk fell while was moving between floors in the plant, which is nine stories tall.

Niiya says Van Buskirk worked for ConAgra for less than a year.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating but hasn’t yet revealed its findings.

About 90 employees work at the Alton facility.
