CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOX) — Parents in the Cahokia school district are being warned about a man who is offering children rides to school, and in at least one case, even knew the little girl’s name.
One mother tells police a roughly 45 year old white man wearing a suit and driving a Lincoln pulled up to her house Tuesday morning and after she didn’t open the front door went back to his car and honked his horn. When she went out to see what he wanted, he asked for her daughter by name and said, “It’s about the school.” He then drove off.
Superintendent Art Ryan says since then he has heard from two other families whose children have been approached by strangers asking if they need a ride to school.
All the incidents involved students from different elementary schools. Cahokia police say they are adding extra patrols at the schools.
