FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) – An eastern Missouri man is accused of shooting a man in the head as he sat in a recliner, then dousing the man in gasoline and setting him on fire.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 54-year-old David Lee Sperry worked as a handyman for 68-year-old Kenneth Ray Vaughn. Sperry is jailed without bail on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree arson and armed criminal action.
Vaughn was found dead on Jan. 10. Police found beer cans containing gasoline inside Vaughn’s mobile home in St. Francois County. Officers suspect gas from the cans was poured on Vaughn after he had been shot.
Police did not disclose a possible motive.
