DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Thousands of people are gathering in Des Moines to celebrate all things bacon.
More than 10,000 pounds of bacon will be available to people at the annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival in Des Moines. More than 8,000 people from around the country are expected to attend Saturday’s event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The festival will include a lot of bacon sampling, lectures, an eating competition and bacon-inspired dishes. A traveling group of bacon enthusiasts from Iceland will be in attendance as special guests.
Earlier events ahead of the festival included a bacon queen pageant and a pig pardon by Gov. Terry Branstad.
Tickets for this year’s event sold out in just over three minutes.
