JENNINGS, Mo. (KMOX) – A Jennings man is in jail this morning, accused of murdering his girlfriend in front of her two young children.

Police say it happened just before 10 o’clock Tuesday night in the 9400 block of Dawn Court which is off Halls Ferry, across from the old River Roads Shopping Center.

They say the man, an unidentified 32-year-old, got into a fight with Sophia Moore, 28. Moore had kicked her estranged boyfriend out of the house a week prior, according to police, and he began beating on the door Tuesday night.

The man allegedly punched Moore first. Then, with her eight and nine-year-old children in the house, police say he stabbed her to death with a kitchen knife.

One of the children then climbed out a window and ran to a neighbor’s house to get help.

The suspect fled but was contacted by police, who were able to convince him to surrender. He is not the father of the children. Police say he confessed to the crime.

Both children are in the custody of their father.
