JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) — Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt, Jr. announced Thursday that the club is extending the contracts of both general manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny, both of whom had contracts that previously ran through 2013.
Mozeliak received a three-year extension that will keep him in the Cardinals front office through the 2016 season. Matheny had his option picked up for 2014.
Mozeliak has served as general manager since taking over for Walt Jocketty following the 2007 season. Matheny, who replaced the retiring Tony La Russa following the Cardinals’ 11th world championship, was entering the final season of a two-year deal signed in November 2011.
Stay tuned to KMOX this afternoon for Kevin Wheeler’s interviews with DeWitt and Mozeliak, along with additional coverage and reaction at KMOX.com.
