CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) - For five weeks in a row, homeless shelter residents and homeless advocates have flocked to the St. Louis County Council meeting to ask for a new shelter.
Lindsay Resney says she has never been homeless but has seen firsthand how overcrowded the shelters are.
“She was living on the street in a teeny-tiny park in DeBaliviere and, because she was single, she couldn’t get a shelter. It was only November and they were already full,” she said.
County Council Chair Kathleen Burkett addressed the homeless, saying a plan is in the works.
“Please understand, it cannot happen overnight,” she said. “It’s a very very complex issue, as I think all of you are aware. But don’t give up hope on that.”
