MONROE COUNTY, IL (KMOX) - Attorneys for Joyce Meyer Ministries will be back in a Monroe County courtroom today, seeking dismissal of the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Sheri Coleman.
Sheri’s family contends the ministry could have done more to prevent the murders of Sheri and her two sons by Chris Coleman, who was the ministry’s head of security.
Chris Coleman is serving life in prison for the 2009 deaths of Sheri, Garett and Gavin, who were strangled in their Columbia, Illinois home.
A previous suit against the ministry was thrown out for not being specific enough, but attorneys filed this time believing they have enough specifics to prove the ministry could have done more to prevent the murders of Sheri and the boys.
The suit contends that the ministry knew its security chief Chris Coleman was unhappy in his marriage, provided marriage counseling for Chris and Sheri, and that he was having an affair which, under ministry policy, could lead to his firing, and that threats were made to Chris and his family.
