Cannon Fire For General’s 193rd Birthday

Sunday in the city, it was a birthday celebration for an army veteran buried at Calvary Cemetery on West Florissant.

A color guard and the firing of a military cannon marked what would have been the 193rd birthday of U.S. Civil War General William Tecumsah Sherman, best known for his unit’s march on Atlanta during the Civil War.

He’s buried at Calvary.

The observance is held each year by the Sons of Union Veterans organization.
