Black Ice Roads Are Back
It’s called “black ice” and it’s a particular problem on nights with temperatures just below freezing and moisture in the air and on the roads. The moisture freezes and often the ice can’t be seen by drivers.
Black ice seems to have been a problem in metro-east Friday night. In what may have been an ice-related accident, the St. Clair County Coroner says 26-year-old Robin Scott and 17-year-old Jyieosha (JYE’-oh-shah) DeWalt, both of Collinsville, where killed when their car hit a van head-on near the Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville.
A second and possibly ice-related crash occurred at the Route 13 overpass at Route 15. In that accident, 51-year-old Thomas and 9-year-old Zachary Hutchison, both of Belleville, died.
