Sen. Jamilah Nasheed’s FB Post Sparks Controversy
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) - Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed is taking some heat for a Facebook post she wrote Monday.
Nasheed, who supports Mayor Francis Slay, wrote on her Facebook account: “If you don’t like Slay because he is white-vote for Jimmie Matthews because Reed is no different than Slay!”
Here’s a screen shot of Nasheed’s post:
Lewis Reed’s people say that is evidence Matthews is a stalking horse and only in the race to take away black votes from Reed.
Nasheed says otherwise. “Reed is fishing for something. I mean now all of a sudden there is a conspiracy theory.”
“I would be surprised if Jimmy Matthews gets three votes,” Nasheed told KMOX. “Slay doesn’t need Jimmy Matthews to beat Reed.”
Nasheed’s original post was erased after the Reed campaign started tweeting about it. Nasheed says she deletes her posts all the time and not to read too much into it.
Tomorrow is the primary election for mayor of St. Louis.
