ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - A north St. Louis County man has been found guilty of shooting a man to death while a teenaged accomplice held him down and then dumping the victim’s body in East St. Louis and setting it on fire.
It took a jury three hours to convict 38-year-old Ernest Smith of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Police say Smith lured Christopher Scott into his Castle Point home and pistol whipped him. When Scott tried to run, 17-year-old Marquan Prete held Scott down while Smith shot him twice.
Scott’s burned body was found in Madison, Illinois. Smith had accused Scott of breaking into his home two days earlier.
Ernest Smith will be sentenced in April. Prete is awaiting trial.
