GLEN CARBON, IL (KMOX) – If an Illinois state representative gets his way, January 19 will be “Stan Musial Day” in Illinois.
Dwight Kay, R-Glen Carbon, says “The Man” had many fans throughout the state, not only for his playing career, but for his legacy as a humanitarian.
“Look at his presence on the field and off the field and then you consider what a stellar family man he was. He loved his wife, loved his kids, loved his grandkids. He needs to be memorialized in a special way,” Kay said.
As for that “special way” being the naming of the new Mississippi River Bridge at St. Louis after the baseball Hall of Famer, Rep. Kay says he is not aware of any resolution in the Illinois House of Representatives suggesting that.
Kay is in favor of calling it the “Wounded Warrior” Bridge and another Illinois lawmaker has proposed the name “Veterans Memorial Bridge.” The Missouri Legislature has a resolution filed to call the bridge the “Stan Musial Memorial Bridge.”
Rep. Kay says he doesn’t anticipate any opposition to his resolution, now pending in Springfield. “I think everyone in the House of Representatives will recognize, just as I have, what a great man he was and a gentleman who should never be forgotten.”
