ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – “It’s a safe area.”
That’s what Saint Louis Police deputy chief Lawrence O’Toole said Sunday about Laclede’s Landing, following two closing time acts of violence in the entertainment district.
“It was a nice weekend, with large crowds on Laclede’s Landing. The vast majority of people had an enjoyable time at The Landing and the casino without any incidents.”
O’Toole says police had extra patrols in the area, and their response times to the two crimes were good.
Police say no charges are expected in the shooting of a 22-year-old man early Saturday, due to a lack of witness cooperation.
And investigators are hoping someone will provide a tip that leads to the arrest of the man who stabbed 28-year-old Kyle Roberts of Sorento, Ill. to death, early Sunday. Calls are being accepted at the Crimestoppers hotline: 1-866-371-TIPS.
Police say both incidents resulted from disagreements and were not random.
However, the deputy chief says there may be something police and bar owners can learn from the acts, “We’ll work with them to make sure there’s adequate patrols. We’ll work with them on issues we may see with the bars, along with the excise commissioner. We’re going to look hard at these incidents.”
