JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) — With just over two weeks left before Opening Day 2013 for the St. Louis Cardinals, manager Mike Matheny announced Friday that pitcher Adam Wainwright will make the start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 1.

This will be the second time in his career that the 2-time Cy Young Award runner-up makes the opening day start for the Redbirds. The first was in 2009 at Busch Stadium.

Wainwright, 31, makes his fourth Spring Training start for the Cardinals in Jupiter against the Nationals on Friday afternoon. Through his first 3 starts, the Redbirds ace has a 2-1 record with a 3.48 ERA allowing 5 runs (4 earned runs) on 15 hits and 2 home runs over 10.1 innings of work.
