St. Louis, MO (KMOX)–Due to the recent fire-related death on the 4500 Block of Emerson, members of the St. Louis Fire Department will be conducting a door-to-door Neighborhood Smoke Alarm Blitz on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, 5 year-old Amaiziah Gully died after being rescued from a burning home in that neighborhood.

Since August of 2006, the St. Louis Fire Department has installed thousands of smoke alarms across all city neighborhoods. The smoke alarm program, along with other community outreach efforts, has allowed the City of St. Louis to achieve one of the lowest urban fire fatality rates in the country.

Any city resident who is in need of a smoke alarm can contact the St. Louis Fire Department Headquarters, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at (314) 533-3406
