ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The highlight of Saturday’s “Baconfest” in downtown St. Louis was a 48-foot long, 500-pound “Hog Log” on a grill.

Lumiere Place Casino executive chef John Johnson compiled a massive shopping list to make it, “We have 275 pounds of salsiccia and 220 pounds of bacon (cooked and raw). The other stuff we have in there are ten gallons of barbecue sauce and about five pounds of dry rub.”

Johnson told KMOX News his griller easily surpassed anything he’d ever seen like it, “We decided to really blow it out the doors. Too bad the Guinness Book of World Records isn’t going to honor it I don’t think, because they consider it a regional achievement. Hopefully Baconfest will become a national thing so we can hold the record.”

Those who came to Saturday’s event to sample some of Chef Johnson’s culinary creation made a donation to the U.S.O. for their eats.
