JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) – The Cardinals may be without their closer for the start of the regular season.

KMOX’s Mike Claiborne reports from Spring Training in Jupiter, Florida that right-handed pitcher Jason Motte has been diagnosed with a “mild elbow strain”, and has been shut down from throwing, and is likely headed to the Disabled List.

The Cardinals could turn to Trevor Rosenthal or Mitchell Boggs to finish games if Motte isn’t ready when the team heads north.

John Mozeliak gathered with the media to talk about this injury, that he says will likely land Motte on the DL.
