ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A “Winter Storm Warning” is in effect until 11:50pm Sunday, according to the National Weather Service office in St. Louis.

Moderate to heavy snow is expected to fall until evening- tapering off to flurries by midnight.

Accumulations should be in the 6 to 11 inch range, with winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusts of up to 30 mph.

Forecasters say the snow will have the potential to accumulate on roads and at a rapid pace, making travel hazardous.

As of 9:30am local time, Lambert St. Louis International Airport had 35 departures and 30 arrivals cancelled through midnight. It’s website is http://www.flystl.com .

There also is the potential for the heavy wet snow to bring down tree limbs and power lines.
