SPRINGFIELD, IL (IRN) - Monday marks the beginning of early voting for the April 9 local elections in Illinois. The early period ends three days before Election Day, but State Sen. Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) is sponsoring a bill to let it run right up to the day before Election Day.
“We should use every opportunity to allow people to vote and I think that is what we need to move towards,” Raoul said.
Raoul said this bill, S.B. 2212, is aimed at preventing the problems faced by voters in Florida who waited in lines for hours to vote.
“Technology is such that if you can get everything together from Saturday to Tuesday you can certainly get everything together from the day before to the following day,” Raoul said.
