JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Gov. Jay Nixon is encouraging Missouri residents to observe a new state day honoring veterans of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tuesday was officially designated “Veterans of Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom Day” in Missouri.
Nixon signed legislation last year designating March 26 as a day to honor anyone who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Desert Storm and all future military operations in the Iraq and Afghanistan regions.
The new law does not call for any specific action on the day of remembrance. It just encourages Missourians to “observe the day with appropriate events, activities, and remembrances.”
