SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (KMOX) — MERS-Goodwill officials waded through a dozen claims and believe they now know who made the accidental donation of five-thousand dollars last month.
The money was found by an employee at the Sunset Hills location on Waston Road when they were processing several donations.
President and CEO, Dr. Lewis Chartock said video surveillance has been reviewed and checked against several people claiming the money is theirs.
“We have two people who actually have a valued claim, or somewhat valued claim, or a description of the way the money was donated.”
Chartock said he generally feels sorry for the people who come and claim that the money is theirs. “If you spoke to these people the desperation that some people have and the need for the money is tremendous.”
Chartock said one woman sent them a three page letter explaining why she needs the money, another man said the money must be his because he keeps all his money in clothing.
Remember last year’s accidental $14-thousand dollar donation to Goodwill? A judge had to decide who would get the money nearly 6 months after is was accidentally donated.
Chartock encourages elderly parents who stash money around the house to let their children know where it is.
