Wash U. Pledges to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Washington University in St. Louis is investing $30 million in a sustainability effort.

The university says it’s committed to a 22 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, returning them to 1990 levels. The project will aim to cut emissions through greater energy efficiency, improved heating and cooling and better waste management.

Washington University officials say the project announced Wednesday is part of the school’s Clinton Global Initiative University efforts.

Former President Bill Clinton is hosting the Clinton Global Initiative at the university starting April 5. The initiative convenes global leaders to consider solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
