Hasbro Has A Hit
After a delayed release, the sequel “G.I Joe: Retaliation” fought its way to the top of movie box office race amidst equally shallow competition with a first weekend total of $41.2 million, The film also did well on the international scene. It opened just a little behind the opening weekend totals of the original movie from 2009, “G.I Joe: Rise of the Cobra.” Both motion pictures have toy manufacturer Hasbro as a major Producer.
“The Croods,” an animated film with the metaphorical message about facing your fears and discovering new vistas in life, took in $26.5 million putting it in second place. Featuring a great vocal cast lead by Nicholas Cage, “The Croods” now has a total of $88.6 million for two weeks in release. It is being shown in both 2-D and 3-D versions.
“Tyler Perry’s Temptation,” a new film about infidelity and choices, came in third place scoring $22.3 million.
“Olympus Has Fallen,” a film in which the White House and the President get captured by terrorists, finished in fourth place with $14 million. “Oz: The Great and Powerful was fifth with $11.6 million, giving it a domestic total of $198.4 million for four weeks. Newcomer science fiction film “The Host” opened to poor reviews and took in only $11 million, leaving it in sixth spot. One of the openings next weekend is the return of the mega-hit “Jurassic Park” in 3-D.
